Methodology
How we compare pet cameras
We separate product specifications, manufacturer claims, independent hands-on findings, owner reports, and details that remain unclear.
What we compare
Real cost
Hardware plus required service plans over one, two and three years.
Interaction
Audio, treat dispensing, movement, alert behavior and pet-specific usefulness.
Privacy
Storage location, account security, retention, deletion controls and documented encryption claims.
Reliability
App stability, latency, connection behavior, and recurring owner-reported faults, with the source of each finding made clear.
How we estimate ownership cost
Our one- and three-year estimates combine the camera price with any required service shown in the product information. Optional plans are listed separately. Prices are dated US examples and exclude tax and shipping.
Which information we trust most
We use manufacturer pages for specifications, plan terms, and support policies. For real-world operation, we look for attributed hands-on reviews. Owner reports can reveal recurring concerns, but individual experiences do not establish a failure rate.
What we have—and have not—tested
Our current product guides are based on published information rather than our own hands-on testing. When we summarize an independent test, we name the source and keep its findings separate from manufacturer claims.
Availability, privacy, and review dates
Unavailable or discontinued products do not appear in current recommendations. For privacy and security, “not found” means we did not find the control in the sources checked; it does not prove the control is absent. Review dates change only after the relevant information has been checked again.
Editorial independence and corrections
Affiliate relationships do not affect which products we include or recommend. If a price, plan, specification, or source has changed, please send us a correction.
